To help you choose The Horn Of Plenty Hotel for its location, we've listed some of the local attractions below. Cherry pick for a short break. Try to visit all if you're on holiday in Dartmoor.

UNESCO World Heritage Site

Explore part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Start at Morwellham Quay UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Horn Of Plenty Hotel is set within the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, as the name suggests, is rare. Make the most of this very special location.

Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site is split into sections across the Westcountry. The Horn of Plenty Hotel is situated within the Tamar Valley and Tavistock section of the UNESCO site. This is also an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that borders Dartmoor National Park. So, you get a UNESCO World Heritage Site, AONB and National Park in which to holiday. To discover more, walk some of the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail.

National Trust's Cotehele

Visit the National Trust's Cotehele. In our opinion, Cotehele is one of the best National Trust properties in the Westcountry. Wander along a bank of the River Tamar to Calstock. You'll pass under the remarkable Calstock Viaduct.

Tamar Trails

Enjoy all the activities at the Tamar Trails Centre. Mountain bike, treesurf and canoe the River Tamar. Ride mountain bike trails that twist through the UNESCO landscape. Surf in the canopies of trees way above the forest floor. When you canoe the Tamar, you paddle under Calstock Viaduct.

Tavistock

Spend a day in Tavistock. Gateway town to the western side of Dartmoor National Park, this town has a fascinating past and vibrant present.

Brentor

Take in the huge views of Dartmoor National Park from Brentor St Michael de Rupe Church and Kit Hill Country Park. You'll see the western side of Dartmoor running from Mid Devon down to the South Devon coast. An amazing sight.

Walk Dartmoor's high moor

Yomp the moors and tors of Dartmoor National Park. Follow the road that climbs from Tavistock to Princetown and you can walk to Great Staple Tor, Great Mis Tor, King's Tor or disappear into the high north plateau to the most remote spot in southern England at Fur Tor.

National Trust and English Heritage sites

Visit the National Trust's Buckland Abbey (National Trust), Lydford Gorge (National Trust) and Saltram (National Trust). Also see English Heritage's Lydford Castle (English Heritage) and Okehampton Castle (English Heritage).

Cycling and horse riding

Cycle Drake's Trail and the Granite Way. Go horse riding on the moors from Cholwell Farm Riding Stables.

Plymouth and Cornwall

Take day trips to Plymouth and Cornwall. Plymouth Barbican is superb. Pop into the National Marine Aquarium, take in the views across Plymouth Sound and see where The Pilgrim Fathers and Charles Darwin sailed from England. The coast of East Cornwall is not particularly well known. On a sunny day, Whitsand Bay is mind blowing. West of the Tamar Valley is Bodmin Moor.

You might want to book a longer holiday to make the most of the hotel's location!
