To help you choose Mill End Hotel and Restaurant for its location, we've listed some of the local attractions below. Cherry pick for a short break. Try to visit all if you're on holiday in Dartmoor.

Teign Gorge (National Trust)

This is one of the most beautiful areas in Dartmoor National Park. The National Trust's Castle Drogo is perched high above the mouth of the gorge. Fingle Bridge and Fingle Bridge Inn are in a beauty spot at the far end of the gorge where it runs into Fingle Woods. Walking the Teign Gorge is an essential Dartmoor experience. Both the Two Moors Way and Dartmoor Way run through it. The views from Sharp Tor, about half way down the valley, back past Castle Drogo and over Mill End Hotel to the high north moors are sublime.

From Mill End Hotel and Restaurant, cross the road and follow the bank of the River Teign to the Teign Gorge. Basically, it's on your doorstep.

Castle Drogo (National Trust)

As you approach the Teign Gorge, you'll see the National Trust's Castle Drogo high to the left. Fascinating place, stunning gardens and views. Grab a cream tea and shop.

A little further away, visit Finch Foundry (National Trust). A drive away are English Heritage's Okehampton Castle (English Heritage) and the National Trust's Lydford Gorge (National Trust).

Stone Lane Gardens and Mythic Garden Sculpture Exhibition

Magical place. Seeing the colours of the various birch trees is worth a weekend at Mill End Hotel and Restaurant alone.

Spinster's Rock

Dartmoor's prehistory is of international importance. One of its finest prehistoric attractions is near Mill End Hotel and Restaurant.

Chagford

It's a great place packed with pubs, cafes and shops.

Whiddon Deer Park

Opposite Castle Drogo, at the mouth of the Teign Gorge, is Whiddon Deer Park. Look out for the sculptures. Visit for the exceptional views across the Mill End Hotel and Restaurant and Chagford area to the high moors.

If great views appeal, head a little further away to Blackingstone Rock. As you can see from the images in that listing, the views are amazing.

Scorhill Stone Circle

On those high moors, near Batworthy Corner, are a high number of prehistoric attractions. Scorhill Stone Circle is, perhaps, the most impressive.

Dartmoor's high moors

Push on from Scorhill Stone Circle and you follow the rise of the moors to Dartmoor's north plateau. You'll see the only two mountains in southern England ahead of you.

Fernworthy Forest

One of the most appealing aspects of staying in the Mill End Hotel and Restaurant area is the access to different types of landscapes. Gorge and rolling countryside, moor and plantations. Fernworthy is like the forests of Canada. Walk around the reservoir.

The Miniature Pony Centre

Dartmoor is famous for its ponies. The miniature ponies at this family attraction just outside Moretonhampstead are seriously cute. If riding is your thing then there are plenty of yards around the Mill End Hotel and Restaurant and Chagford area.

They say: 'On the edge of Dartmoor National Park, Mill End Hotel features a creative restaurant, elegant bedrooms and free Wi-Fi. The hotel is set in leafy grounds just outside Chagford'. View availability and read more.
