Widecombe St Pancras Church, Widecombe in the Moor, Dartmoor National Park

The 'Cathedral of the Moor'.

In East Dartmoor, and dominating the popular moorland village of Widecombe in the Moor, Widecombe St Pancras Church dates from the 1300s. Wallboards within the church tell a story of a fire-ball passing through the church and killing four people as a result of a lightening strike in October 1638.

Next door is the National Trust's Sextons Cottage and Church House.

There are great views of the church tower from the area between Pil Tor and Bonehill Rocks.

To the north of Widecombe St Pancras Church, we'd recommend walking Hamel Down for its panoramic views of the Park. If into horse riding, try Shilstone Rocks Horse Riding to the south east. A little further south east are the extraordinary Ten Commandments Stones.
