1. The Dewerstone and the Plym Valley.

2. Visit National Trust properties such as Saltram House and Buckland Abbey. Lydford Gorge, Cotehele House and Antony House are a little further away.

3. Cycle Drake's Trail that runs between Tavistock and Plymouth. Further north, cycle the Granite Way that runs between Lydford and Okehampton. If you fancy some mountain biking, try the Granite and Gears routes up at Princetown. Other outdoor activities in Dartmoor include horse riding, climbing and bouldering.

4. Walk the moors and tors near Shaugh Prior. Try Sheeps Tor, Gutter Tor and Trowlesworthy Tors.

5. Explore Dartmoor's prehistory in the Upper Plym Valley. Further away, see the stone rows and standing stones at Merrivale, Stalldown and Stall Moor.

6. Head for the beautiful Burrator Reservoir and then Princetown. Learn about Dartmoor in the Princetown National Park Visitor Centre.

7. Spend a day at Dartmoor Zoo.

8. Visit Plymouth.

9. Discover Tavistock which is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

10. Take day trips to the coastlines of South Devon and East Cornwall.
