Sampford Spiney, Dartmoor National Park
1. Walk the moors and tors. In the local area, try Pew Tor, Great Staple Tor, Ingra Tor and King's Tor.
2. Explore Princetown. Visit the Princetown National Park Visitor Centre and Dartmoor Prison Museum.
3. From Princetown, mountain bike the Granite and Gears routes. Other outdoor activities include horse riding and climbing. If you want a family cycle route, try Drake's Trail and the Granite Way.
4. Experience the stone rows, stone circle and standing stone at English Heritage's Merrivale which is one of Dartmoor's finest prehistoric sites.
5. Picnic at the beautiful Burrator Reservoir. You can also cycle around the reservoir or summit some of the stunning tors that surround it to enjoy big views.
6. Visit the National Trust's Buckland Abbey. Other National Trust properties include Lydford Gorge, Cotehele House and Saltram House.
7. Explore Tavistock which is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
8. Follow the B3212 to Two Bridges and Postbridge. We'd also recommend following the B3357 to Dartmeet and the Dart Gorge.
9. Spend a day in Okehampton. The Museum of Dartmoor Life and English Heritage's Okehampton Castle are superb.
10. Day trip to Plymouth. Visit some of the beaches that line the South Devon and East Cornwall coastlines.
