Michelcombe, Dartmoor National Park

1. Explore Dartmoor's south plateau. Head up to Ryder's Hill which is the highest point in the southern section of the National Park.

2. Follow one of the ancient monastic routes across the moors and see some of Dartmoor's famous stone crosses. Try the Buckfast-Tavistock Monastic Route and the Abbot's Way. Also walk the Two Moors Way.

3. Enjoy the local pubs. There's the Church House Inn in Holne, The Tradesman's Arms in Scorriton, the Tavistock Inn in Poundsgate and The Forest Inn in Hexworthy.

4. Walk the Dart Gorge.

5. Try Dartmoor's outdoor activities. Go wild swimming, canoeing, horse riding and climbing. Mountain bike the Granite and Gears routes around Princetown.

6. Spend a day at the River Dart Country Park. There are plenty of other family attractions in the area including Buckfast Abbey, the South Devon Railway, Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies and Pennywell Farm.

7. Discover Dartmoor's prehistory.

8. Visit Princetown and Postbridge. In the other direction, visit Widecombe-in-the-Moor and the Haytor Rocks area.

9. Take day trips to Exeter and Plymouth.

10. Leave the moors to explore The English Riviera and South Devon.
