Tamar Trails Tree Surfers, Tavistock, Dartmoor National Park

This is a brilliant experience. Whilst you'll need a head for heights, this is a superb family activity. Move through the canopy of trees high above the forest floor on a ropes course using walkways, bridges, swings and zip wires. You're clipped onto a safety wire throughout the ropes course and are given expert tuition so you always feel safe despite the big drops. Tamar Trails Tree Surfers is part of the Tamar Trails Centre which is an outdoor activity hub in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just west of Dartmoor.
We've positioned Tamar Trails Tree Surfers on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. To visit, head for Gunnislake on the Cornwall/Devon border. The Tamar Trails Centre is on the Devon side of the border and is well signposted. There's plenty of parking next to the visitor centre where you pick up your kit. The ropes course is close to the visitor centre.
Once staff have helped you with your kit, they give you training before you set off into the canopy of trees. Clipped onto a safety line, at points you are way above the forest floor. It's an absolute buzz and young kids love it.
Age, height and weight restrictions apply. See the Tamar Trails Tree Surfers website for further information.
Note that in addition to the ropes course, you can try a 40 feet tree jump and a fast and long zip wire. There are plenty of other activities from the Tamar Trails Centre including walking, cycling, canoeing and archery.
Grab a drink and some food at the cafe in the visitor centre. If it's sunny, sit outside and take in the amazing views across the Tamar Valley to Cornwall.
