Tamar Trails Canoe Tamar, Tavistock, Dartmoor National Park

The Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is just west of Dartmoor National Park. It's named after the River Tamar that winds through a stunning wooded landscape on its way to Plymouth and the South Devon coast. The Tamar Trails Centre is an activity hub within the Tamar Valley. You can book a canoe trip on the River Tamar via the Tamar Trails Centre. It's a wonderful experience taking you from the National Trust's Cotehele to Calstock and then Morwellham Quay area.
When we took a canoe trip on the Tamar, we started from the quayside below Cotehele House. There's plenty of car parking, public toilets, an information centre, historical boat, shop and tea room. You're given buoyancy aids and the canoes are stable and easy to paddle.
The trip took us upriver past Calstock village and under Calstock Viaduct towards Morwellham Quay. Given that it was a wee bit windy that day, we were unable to make it around the bend of the river to Morwellham Quay. We stopped for a break about half way through the trip. Our group consisted of adults and children between the ages of 8 and 10.
