Church House, South Tawton, Dartmoor National Park

In the middle of Dartmoor's most famous village, next to the 'Cathedral of the Moor', is the National Trust's Sextons Cottage and Church House. It's a beautiful and popular building. Up by the northern border of the National Park is the even more impressive South Tawton Church House.

According to the website 'buildinghistory.org' to which we provide an external link, 'the church house was the medieval equivalent of the church hall. Its chief purpose was to house the festivals and church ales which raised funds for many an English parish church until the rise of Puritanism'. Church ales 'were revels which could include sports, plays and Morris dancing, encouraged by a brew of strong ale, made on the premises'.

We've positioned South Tawton's Church House on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. There's limited parking in the village square in front of the building. Check the satellite imagery for detail.
