Erme Pound/Hook Lake Stone Row, South Brent, Dartmoor National Park

Erme Pound/Hook Lake Stone Row is a short stone row just south east of Erme Pound by Hook Lake. If it weren't marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map, it would be difficult to find when exploring the area. The stones are small and obscured by long, moorland grass.

We've positioned Erme Pound/Hook Lake Stone Row on Google maps. Zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. To visit for the first time, we'd recommend starting from the car parking area at Harford Moor Gate. Follow the trackbed of Red Lake Railway (Dismantled)/Puffing Billy Track as it winds into the heart of Dartmoor's south moor. Beyond Left Lake, where the trackbed sweeps north east, you'll see Erme Pound by the River Erme below in the distance. Follow one of the grass paths across the moor to Erme Pound. Cross Hook Lake and head for the first enclosure. The stone row climbs moorland in front of you.

According to the Dartmoor expert Eric Hemery in his work 'High Dartmoor', it's a double stone row.

Note that the world's longest stone row is on the other side of the River Erme. Stall Moor Stone Row runs between Green Hill and Stall Moor The Dancers Stone Circle.
