Ditsworthy Warren House Ford, Sheepstor, Dartmoor National Park

Ditsworthy Warren House is a ruin on Dartmoor. It was used in Steven Spielberg's film 'War Horse'. Just south west of the ruin is a ford, or crossing place, on the River Plym. This is Ditsworthy Warren House Ford.

We've positioned Ditsworthy Warren House Ford on Google maps. Zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

Local farmers on quad bikes and horse riders cross the ford without problems. For walkers, the ford is reasonably wide. After dry weather, you can cross relatively easily. We tend to wear walking wellington boots when planning to cross the water here. Whatever footwear you're wearing, it'll get wet as there's no footbridge or stepping stones at this ford.

After wet weather, it's usually impassable. The water becomes too deep and the current too strong safely to cross.

Cadover Bridge is further downstream. There's another wide ford upstream below Shavercombe Tor. There are less wide fords at Plym Steps and Plym Ford.

If you're planning to walk in this area, don't assume you can cross the River Plym here.
