Ditsworthy Warren, Sheepstor, Dartmoor National Park

Study a map of Dartmoor and you'll see plenty of names with the word 'warren' in them. Perhaps the most well-known example is Headland Warren by The Warren House Inn in the heart of the National Park. Another is Ditsworthy Warren in the Upper Plym Valley in the southern section of Dartmoor.

Warrens, as the name suggests, were places where rabbits were farmed. The meat and fur were sold locally and beyond.

Warrens were run by warreners who lived in warren houses. Ditsworthy Warren House is a fine example and was used in Spielberg's film 'War Horse'.
