Cadover Bridge Cross, Shaugh Prior, Dartmoor National Park
Cadover Bridge Cross, or Cadover Cross, is situated near Cadover Bridge that spans the River Plym at the mouth of the Dewerstone Valley near the south western border of Dartmoor National Park. We've positioned the cross on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.
In his book 'Walking Dartmoor's Ancient Tracks: A guide to 28 routes', the Dartmoor expert Eric Hemery places Cadover Bridge Cross, or Cadover Cross, on the 'Monastic Way: Plympton Priory - Tavistock Abbey (with branch track to Meavy chruch)'. He writes that the main track [ie Monastic Way] swings left on the north bank [of the River Plym] and approaches Cadover Cross as a sunken way; it is a fine monument nearly 9 feet high'.
To visit, head for the large car parking area by Cadover Bridge and wander up to see the cross. We'd also recommend visiting as part of the Dewerstone Valley Circular Walk.
