Holming Beam Bridge, Princetown, Dartmoor National Park
There's a car parking area at Holming Beam offering access to the Merrivale Range area of Dartmoor National Park. This is a British Army firing range but it's open to the public for large chunks of the year.
The car parking area is above a beautiful valley cut by the River Cowsic as it flows down from the high moors to join the West Dart River at Two Bridges.
To cross the River Cowsic in the middle of this valley, use Holming Beam Bridge. We've positioned this bridge on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. It's a great way to get up to Beardown Tors, Lydford Tor, Devil's Tor and Beardown Man Standing Stone.
Note that there's a ford further up the valley at Broad Hole that can be used after a spell of dry weather. This ford is on the old Lichway/Lych Way that runs between, roughly speaking, Bellever in the heart of Dartmoor to Lydford on the western border of the National Park.
