East Okement Head, Okehampton, Dartmoor National Park

The River Okement flows from Okehampton to meet the River Torridge north of Hatherleigh in Mid Devon. The River Okement rises in two places on Dartmoor's north moor. The West Okement River has its headwaters up by Cranmere Pool. The East Okement River rises on a flank of Okement Hill by the army ring road and disused observation point 15 (OP15). The West Okement River and the East Okement River pincer Dartmoor's highest ground before meeting near the centre of Okehampton.

We've positioned the East Okement Head area on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. The East Okement Head area is relatively easily accessible via the army ring road.

Many other rivers rise in this area. These include the River Taw, East Dart River and Walla Brook.

From its headwaters, the East Okement River flows north over army roads and fords to Cullever Steps and then into the stunning East Okement Valley and West Cleave.
