Roos Tor, Merrivale, Dartmoor National Park

Roos Tor, Merrivale, Dartmoor National Park

Roos is the northernmost tor in a cluster of outcrops on the western side of Dartmoor National Park. It's near the stunning and much photographed Great Staple Tor and overlooks Langstone Moor with its stone circle, standing stone and stone row. Great Mis Tor dominates to the east. The view north along the flank of the high moor to Great Links Tor is beautiful.

We've positioned Roos Tor on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

To visit, we'd recommend starting from one of the car parking areas along the B3357. Follow the grass paths up to Great Staple Tor and then across to Roos Tor. If time permits, continue to Langstone Moor Stone Circle and The Longstone Standing Stone (Langstone Moor) before returning.

Another circular walk taking in Roos Tor starts from the car parking area at Smeardon Down by Peter Tavy. Wander up to White Tor and then across to The Longstone Standing Stone (Langstone Moor) and Langstone Moor Stone Circle. Follow the grass path to Roos Tor, Great Staple Tor and then return to your starting point via Higher Godsworthy. Note that the latter is a working farm with dogs so avoid if you're dog walking.
