Greator Rocks, Manaton, Dartmoor National Park

Houndtor Down is packed with points on interest. Hound Tor is one of Dartmoor's most popular rocky outcrops. Beyond its south east side is English Heritage's Hound Tor Abandoned Medieval Settlement. South of Hound Tor and the settlement is Holwell Lawn which is known for its astonishing bluebell showing and pony and horse riding events. Prehistory can be found at the Cairn Circle and Cist. Perhaps least visited is Greator Rocks on the eastern side of the down overlooking Becka Brook. It's worth exploring as there are super views and a good path runs from the rocks south to Holwell Lawn.

We've positioned Greator Rocks on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see their location.

To visit, head for the car parking area below Hound Tor at Swallerton Gate. Wander up to Hound Tor and drop down to Greator Rocks. There's a gully up which you can scramble to make the most of the views.

Note that a path runs north of Greator Rocks to a clapper bridge spanning Becka Brook. This connects Houndtor Down to Haytor Down and is great for walks. There's a new granite bridge further upstream below Holwell Tor which is convenient for circular walks.
