Widgery Cross, Lydford, Dartmoor National Park

In Lydford, a local information board reads:

'High on the open moor to the east of Lydford lies Bray Tor, sometimes called Brat Tor, on the summit of which stands an impressive granite cross erected to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. The cross was built at the expense of William Widgery, a celebrated Dartmoor artist, who lived at what is now the Lydford House Hotel. William's son Frederick John Widgery also achieved fame as a Dartmoor artist and their works fetch many thousands of pounds today.'
