Sharp Tor (West Dartmoor), Lydford, Dartmoor National Park

Dartmoor has plenty of Sharp Tors and Sharpitors. This one is in the western section of the National Park and is part of a chain of dramatic granite outcrops providing super views over the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Cornwall.

We've positioned Sharp Tor (West Dartmoor) on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

Given that Sharp Tor (West Dartmoor) is part of a chain of outcrops, we'd recommend visiting as part of a circular walk taking in many tors in the local area. Start from the car parking area behind The Dartmoor Inn at Lydford. Walk along the farm wall to the stepping stones and footbridge spanning the River Lyd. Follow the grass path/track that rises between Brat Tor (Bray Tor)/Widgery Cross and Arms Tor to Great Links Tor. From Great Links Tor, wander south to Chat Tor and then Sharp Tor (West Dartmoor). Note that this section of the walk crosses Rattlebook Hill that can get boggy after a spell of wet weather. Best to walk this route during a dry period. From Sharp Tor (West Dartmoor), cross to Hare Tor and then drop down to Doe Tor. Cross Doetor Brook and yomp up to Brat Tor (Bray Tor)/Widgery Cross. Descend to the stepping stones and footbridge spanning the River Lyd and return to the car parking area.

Alternative routes include walking up to Sharp Tor (West Dartmoor) from the car parking area by the A386 by Willsworthy Camp or from the car parking area at Lanehead up the road from Mary Tavy. The latter route takes you up to Ger Tor and across to Hare Tor and then Sharp Tor (West Dartmoor).
