Sharp Tor (Dartmeet/East Dartmoor), Dartmoor, Dartmoor National Park

Many of Dartmoor's classic views are provided by tors overlooking steep-sided wooded valleys and gorges. There's Sharp Tor in the Teign Gorge, Ger Tor above Tavy Cleave and the Dewerstone above the Dewerstone Valley. Perhaps the best of the lot is the view from Sharp Tor above Dart Gorge. If you can go in Autumn (when there's clean light) and the sun is towards the west then it's a joy.

Sharp Tor itself is impressive. It's one of Dartmoor's many fins of rock. It's also very easily accessible from local car parking areas.

We've positioned Sharp Tor (Dartmeet/East Dartmoor) on Google maps. Zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. To visit for the first time, we'd recommend walking in from the car parking area at Yartor Down to the east and above Dartmeet. Paths drop down to a shallow valley (gets boggy and wet so take boots) and then climb to the tor. Alternatively, there's a car parking area at Bel Tor Corner. It's an easy walk down a moorland road and across open moor to Sharp Tor. If you're feeling energetic, we'd recommend walking Dr Blackall's Drive which is part of the Two Moors Way. There are car parking areas between New Bridge and Poundsgate from which you access Dr Blackall's Drive. Amazing walk.
