River Meavy, Dartmoor, Dartmoor National Park

The River Meavy runs from the outskirts of Princetown to the north eastern end of Burrator Reservoir. At the southern end of the reservoir, it resumes its course past the village Meavy towards the River Plym. The combined river flows through Plym Valley to Plymouth and Plymouth Sound.

If you look at the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map, you'll see Meavy Head below Princetown. The headwaters run under the B3212 at Devil's Bridge and then flow through a boggy area between Hart Tor and Black Tor. Here, you'll see Hart Tor Stone Rows to the east bank of the river and Black Tor Stone Row to the west.

The River Meavy continues under the impressive Devonport Leat Aqueduct and enters plantations. It runs under Leather Tor Bridge and into Burrator Reservoir in a very popular visitor spot with a large car parking area.

At the southern end of the reservoir is a huge dam. From the foot of the dam, the River Meavy cuts through a pretty valley to the edge of Meavy village. It then swings around to the villages Hoo Meavy and Clearbrook by the multi-use Drake's Trail.

The final section of the River Meavy sees it enter a wooded area near The Dewerstone. The River Meavy meets the River Plym by Shaugh Bridge. The combined River Plym flows through the stunning Plym Valley. Drake's Trail runs high above the water.
