Shovel Down Stone Rows, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Shovel Down Stone Rows, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

There are numerous stone rows running across a compact section of moorland on Shovel Down near Chagford. Some are very obvious double stone rows and can been seen from a long way off. Others consist of smaller stones obscured by tussocks and long grass. There's also evidence of stone rows no longer in existence. Taken as a whole, the stone rows are immensely impressive against the backdrop of Dartmoor's high moors and Fernworthy Forest.

To visit, we'd recommend starting from Batworthy Corner which is the end point of the road that winds its way up the flank of the moors from Chagford to Chagford Common.
