Milfordleigh Wood (National Trust), Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Dartmoor is home to some of the National Trust's best Westcountry properties such as Castle Drogo and Lydford Gorge. Collectively, these properties pull in huge numbers of visitors. However, there are also smaller National Trust properties and chunks of land that are less well visited. To our knowledge, the smallest is Milfordleigh Wood situated between Chagford and the luxury hotel Gidleigh Park.

We've positioned Milfordleigh Wood on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. To visit, follow the Two Moors Way on foot from Chagford towards Gidleigh Park. Beyond Leigh Bridge, turn right or north off the Two Moors Way towards Leigh where you use Leigh Bridge Stepping Stones to cross the River Teign. The National Trust sign for Milfordleigh Wood is in front of you.

Alternatively, follow the Taw-Teign Link from Chagford Bridge to Murchington. Beyond the village, a path runs left or south down to Milfordleigh Wood and Leigh Bridge Stepping Stones. Clearly, if you're staying at Gidleigh Park you can wander down to explore the wood.
