Kestor Rock and Middle Tor Rock Basins, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park
Across Dartmoor, you'll find plenty of basins worn into the flat granite surfaces of tors. These are referred to as rock basins. Some of the best examples can be found in the northern section of Chagford Common. They look like miniature paddling pools that have been carved and polished into the rock. In fact, they are created by a rare weathering process. They are natural features and not part of the rich prehistory of this section of the National Park.
We've positioned the Kestor Rock basin on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. Middle Tor rock basin is a short walk south east. To visit, take the road from Chagford to Batworthy corner and then walk up to Kestor Rock.
