Hunter's Tor (Teign Gorge/North East Dartmoor), Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Follow the Hunter's Path along the upper wall of the Teign Gorge on a sunny day and you'll find plenty of people taking in the views from Sharp Tor (Teign Gorge/North East Dartmoor). Fewer visit Hunter's Tor above Iron Bridge at the mouth the Teign Gorge which is a shame because the views are equally as magnificent into the gorge and over the eastern and northern sections of Dartmoor National Park.

We've positioned Hunter's Tor on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. Whilst there are various ways to get to it, we'd recommend starting out at Castle Drogo and then walking the Hunter's Path west below the National Trust property. Where the path switches back on itself, you'll see a track trending south along a ridgeline. Hunter's Tor is at the end of this track. It's compact but there's room for a small group of people to sit on the rocks and take in the views. Across the way is Whiddon Deer Park. Sharp Tor is visible along the gorge. Perhaps the best part of the view is west over the Chagford area to the high moors. You'll see Kestor Rock by Gidleigh and, on a clear day, you can make out the army hut on top of Hangingstone Hill. Cosdon is the vast domed hill on the edge of the moors. Below, you'll hear the River Teign flowing east to Fingle Bridge and Fingle Woods.

Note that there is another Hunter's Tor (Lustleigh Cleave/East Dartmoor) at the western end of Lustleigh Cleave offering equally as impressive views.
