Fernworthy Picnic Area, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

South west of Chagford, Fernworthy Forest wraps around the beautiful Fernworthy Reservoir. A road rises from Chagford to a car park at the entrance to Fernworthy Forest. There are information boards, public toilets and a picnic area that runs down to the edge of the water. The views across the reservoir to the forest and Thornworthy Tor are stunning.

You can enjoy various walks from the picnic area. Fernworthy Reservoir Potter's Walk is a short stroll. Fernworthy Reservoir Circular Walk is much more demanding.

We've positioned the Fernworthy Picnic Area on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. To visit, as mentioned above, head for the Dartmoor National Park gateway town Chagford. From there, drive the road that rises to the edge of the high moorland and Fernworthy Forest. The car park is on your right as you enter the forest. A small parking fee applies.
