Buckland Beacon Walk, Buckland in the Moor, Dartmoor National Park

Buckland Beacon is a Dartmoor beauty spot offering some of the best views in the National Park and across South Devon to the English Channel. Located at the end of a spur of open access moorland high above a heavily wooded section of the River Webburn and River Dart, the place is a joy to visit. It's also where you'll find The Ten Commandments Stones.

Start at one of the car parking areas by Cold East Cross. The main car parking area is by Cold East Cross and is marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map. There are other, much smaller, parking areas along the side of the road just south west of Cold East Cross. These are visible on Google's satellite imagery.

From the Cold East Cross area, wander down to the farm wall that runs south down to the lower section of Buckland Common. Keep to the left, or east, side of the wall and head for Welstor Rock on Welstor Common. The views east to the Teign Estuary and Teignmouth are superb. You come to a path that rises west to a stile. Buckland Beacon and The Ten Commandments Stones are in front of you. Refer to the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map for detail.

Having enjoyed the views, walk back along the west side of the farm wall to where you started.
