White Hill and White Hill Settlement, Belstone, Dartmoor National Park

White Hill and White Hill Settlement, Belstone, Dartmoor National Park

Marked White Hill on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map, and Big Whit Hill on the Harvey British Mountain Map 'Dartmoor' map, when visiting, this hill appears to be an extension of the much larger, and higher, Cosdon Hill. For example, as you approach White Hill across the plateau Queenie Meads, you'll see Cosdon Hill rising steeply to the east with White Hill pushing out south west from the high ground.

To visit, head for Cosdon Beacon and then walk across. White Hill provides super views west and south west. At the foot of the hill, above Taw Marsh, are the remains of an ancient settlement. It's an extraordinarily beautiful location for a settlement even by Dartmoor standards. From the settlement, White Hill and Little Hound Tor dominate the immediate landscape.

Whilst it's easy to visit White Hill from Cosdon Beacon, we'd also recommend walking around its west and south flank on the path that's marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map. Start from South Zeal and walk anti-clockwise around Cosdon Hill.
