Burrator and Sheepstor Circular Walk, Yelverton, Dartmoor National Park

If you're heading to Burrator Reservoir and want a good, long walk then this is the one we'd most recommend. It takes in both the reservoir and one of Dartmoor's most impressive tors. The views throughout the walk are magnificent.

Start from the car parking areas by Burrator Dam. There's a quarry car park as marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map or parking along the road on the western side of the dam. We've positioned a marker on the accompanying Google map to show a potential starting point.

From Burrator Dam, wander up the western side of the reservoir to Burrator Discovery Centre which is packed with information on the local area. Continue up the road and you'll come to a gate/stile on your right. Follow the path down to the side of the reservoir. Follow this path along the side of the water to Norsworthy Bridge. Cross the bridge, wander past the car parking area where you'll normally find an ice cream van and continue on the road to the car parking area at Burrator Arboretum and Nature Reserve. Walk into the arboretum and follow one of the paths to the foot of Sheeps Tor. Very obvious paths/tracks rise to the top. The views are awesome.

Head across the top of Sheeps Tor and take the path that drops south west to the ring road that runs around the reservoir. Walk along the road to Sheepstor Dam. A path runs through the woods to Burrator Dam and where you started. There's usually an ice cream van at Burrator Dam as well.
