Tamar Trails Centre

Woodovis Cottage is situated just up the road from the Tamar Trails Centre. Go mountain biking, treesurfing and kayaking in this stunning landscape.

Once you've finished at Morwellham Quay, pop into the National Trust's Cotehele. Amazing place.

 

Brentor

Not far to the north east of Woodovis Cottage is the magnifcent Brentor which is topped by a church. The views to the western side, and highest ground, of Dartmoor National Park are incredible.

 

Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Having taken in the views of Dartmoor on Brentor, if you turn around you'll be looking across the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Explore it. Calstock is particularly lovely.

 

Tavistock

Woodovis Cottage is near Tavistock. Go shopping, explore the abbey ruins and grab a bite to eat.

 

Cycle Drake's Trail

Sir Francis Drake was born just outside Tavistock. There's a wonderful multi-use trail named after him that runs between Tavistock and Plymouth. Hire bikes and complete Drake's Trail. If you enjoy cycling, also try the Granite Way and Princetown's Granite and Gears routes.

 

Other National Trust sites

In addition to Cotehele, there are plenty of other National Trust properties in the area. Try Lydford Gorge and Saltram House.

 

English Heritage sites

Also visit English Heritage's Lydford Castle and Okehampton Castle.

 

Dartmoor's tors

Woodovis Cottage is on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park. Explore Dartmoor's moors and tors. Great Staple Tor and Great Mis Tor are easily accessible from the B3357 that climbs from Tavistock to the high ground. Head to Merrivale to see some of Dartmoor's internationally famous prehistoric sites.
