Shipley Bridge, South Brent, Dartmoor National Park

Shipley Bridge, South Brent, Dartmoor National Park

This is one of the major access points to Dartmoor's south moor. There's a car parking area, toilets and information boards. A tarmac road (not open to vehicles owned by the public) winds its way up the Avon Dam Reservoir Valley to Avon Dam Reservoir. The road follows, and crosses, the River Avon. Moorland paths and tracks rise from this tarmac road making for great walking country. Given the high number of attractions and things to do in this section of the south moor, we highlight the best below.

Shipley Bridge is positioned on the accompanying Google map. Zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. To visit, head for the South Brent area on the A38. At the Marley Head junction, drive the moorland road to Harbourneford Cross, Gingaford Cross and Yalland Cross to Shipley Bridge. You can also drive up from South Brent but the road is more wiggly and narrow.

From the car parking area at Shipley Bridge you can visit:
