Avon Dam Reservoir Valley, South Brent, Dartmoor National Park

Avon Dam Reservoir Valley, South Brent, Dartmoor National Park

The River Avon rises on remote moorland and flows into the Avon Dam Reservoir. From there, beyond the dam wall, it cuts a stunning valley as it meanders down to the car parking area at Shipley Bridge. The stretch of valley between the dam and Shipley Bridge is exceptionally popular with walkers, cyclists, runners and families. We refer to it as the Avon Dam Reservoir Valley.

We've positioned Avon Dam Reservoir Valley on Google maps. Zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. To visit, head for the South Brent area and then follow moorland roads to the car parking area at Shipley Bridge. There are public toilets by the car park. A tarmac road gently climbs from Shipley Bridge to Avon Dam Reservoir. Whilst it's not open to public vehicles, the road is great for a family bike trip.
