Princetown, Nun's Cross and Hart Tor Circular Walk, Princetown, Dartmoor National Park

Walking/views

If you're not staying in Princetown, there's a large car park in the centre of the village. Start from there. Wander over to the Princetown National Park Visitor Centre and you'll see The Plume of Feathers Inn across the road. Just to the left of the inn is the beginning of a track that runs south to South Hessary Tor. This track continues all the way down to Nun's or Siward's Cross.

From Nun's or Siward's Cross, head north west on the moorland path (on the ground, these moorland paths are worn trails across the land. Don't expect a defined path) marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map. This connects with another track that takes you down to the Crazy Well Pool area. Look out for Newleycombe Cross and Crazy Well Cross as you go. The views down to Burrator Reservoir are superb.

From Crazy Well Pool, cross the Devonport Leat and wander up to Cramber Tor. Trend north west from Cramber Tor to Hart Tor. You have to cross Hart Tor Brook. Moorland paths run from Hart Tor back to Princetown.

If you're looking for a much longer walk, from Crazy Well Pool continue to Burrator Reservoir. Stroll around the water in a clockwise direction and you come to the main dam. West of the dam, a track climbs to connect with the trackbed of the old Princetown Railway (Princetown to Yelverton Railway Dismantled). Follow this all the way back to Princetown. Note that the old railway trackbed is part of the Granite and Gears Princetown Railway Cycling Routes.
