Princetown, North Hessary Tor and Foggintor Quarries Circular Walk, Princetown, Dartmoor National Park

Walking/views

Start from the car park next to Princetown National Park Visitor Centre. Wander up the B3357 main road in the direction of Dartmoor Prison and Dartmoor Prison Museum.

Very shortly, you'll see Station Road to your left. The road leads to Dartmoor Brewery and then bends right to the edge of Princetown and open moorland. A good path rises to North Hessary Tor and TV Station. The views from the rocky outcrop up top are superb.

From North Hessary Tor and TV Station, drop down to Foggintor Quarries.

Take the path that winds through the quarries and at its southern end you'll come to the trackbed of the old Princetown Railway (Princetown to Yelverton Railway Dismantled). This is used for the Granite and Gears Princetown Railway Cycling Routes. Follow the trackbed back to Princetown.

To extend this walk, instead of following the old Princetown Railway (Princetown to Yelverton Railway Dismantled) from the southern end of Foggintor Quarries to Princetown, head in the other direction walking the trackbed below King's Tor to Swelltor Quarries.

At Swelltor Quarries, a path climbs to the southern end of Foggintor Quarries and you can then wander along the trackbed to Princetown.
