Plym Head, Princetown, Dartmoor National Park

Walk the South West Coast Path between Plymouth and Bigbury-on-Sea/Bantham and you'll encounter the stunning estuaries of many famous Devon rivers. They all rise on Dartmoor's south plateau relatively close to one another. The headwaters of the River Plym are on Crane Hill near Erme Head and within a boggy yomp from Avon Head and Yealm Head.

The moorland north east and south of Plym Head is surprisingly stable. The moorland west of the headwaters, where the baby rivers arcs to Plym Ford is boggy and unpleasant so either walk behind Plym Head or cross at Plym Ford. From the ford, the River Plym tumbles down to Plym Steps before skirting Drizzle Combe.

We've positioned Plym Head on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. The boggy ground west of the headwaters is clearly visible as is Plym Ford.
