Cut Hill Stone Row, Postbridge, Dartmoor National Park

Cut Hill Stone Row, Postbridge, Dartmoor National Park

Many of Dartmoor's stone rows are difficult to miss. Huge blocks of granite rise from moorland creating impressive patterns in the landscape. Other stone rows are very difficult to find. Small granite teeth are covered by grass and lumpy moorland. The stone row on Cut Hill is something very different.

A series of big granite slabs lying on their side in an exposed peat landscape, it takes time to realise that they are there. Only discovered in recent years, it must have been a wonderful experience walking the roof of Dartmoor towards these stones when they were upright thousands of years ago.

We've positioned Cut Hill Stone Row on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. Google's imagery is so good these days that it's possible to see the stones in a line when you zoom in. To visit, choose a route as described on our Cut Hill page. We'd recommend following the East Dart River route up from Postbridge.
