Army Ring Road Walking and Cycling, Okehampton, Dartmoor National Park

A network of roads run around a section of Dartmoor's north moor. We cover the road and parking in our Okehampton Camp listing. Whilst Dartmoor walking purists avoid the network, it does provide an easy and safe way to get to high, remote moorland on foot or by mountain bike.

We'd recommend walking or cycling from OP22 by East Okement Farm south west to East Mill Tor and then south to Okement Hill. Follow the curve of the road to Steeperton Gorge and then Oke Tor. Drop down to the army ring road and return to your starting point. Refer to the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map for detail.

We'd also suggest walking or cycling up to Yes Tor and High Willhays on the road that passes between Rowtor and West Mill Tor before swinging around to Dartmoor's highest ground.

Pushing all the way out to Dinger Tor is fun as well. From there, it's a yomp up the moor to High Willhays and Yes Tor.
