Moretonhampstead 1 and 2 The Almshouses, Moretonhampstead, Dartmoor National Park

One of the most impressive buildings in Dartmoor National Park, Moretonhampstead 1 and 2 The Almshouses are owned by the National Trust.

If you're looking for historical information, visit the Moretonhampstead History Society website to which we provide an external link. 'Recorded as 'new' in 1451', the building was converted into eight almshouses in 1637. Having been used as a poorhouse and private residences during the following centuries, it was given to the National Trust in 1952 and today consists of two cottages. Note that the cottages are rented out and are not open to the public.
