The Staple Tors, Merrivale, Dartmoor National Park

Haytor Rocks and Hound Tor are, arguably, the most photographed tors in the eastern section of Dartmoor National Park. The Staple Tors are the most photographed in the west. The Staple Tors rise in a line from the B3357 to the top of a dome of moorland. Little Staple Tor is closest to the road and a car parking area. Middle Staple Tor is about 50 metres further up the moor. The outcrops at the top of this dome pull in the photographers and visitors and are known as Great Staple Tor.

We've positioned The Staple Tors on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see their location.

To visit, start from one of the car parking areas along the B3357 west of Merrivale. Follow the grass tracks up to the tors. Great Staple Tor has the famous granite stacks that you see in Dartmoor guidebooks and promotional literature.

The Dartmoor Inn is at Merrivale. There's usually an ice cream can at the very large car parking area by the Tavistock View Point/Pork Hill.
