Heckwood Tor, Merrivale, Dartmoor National Park

Heckwood Tor is a collection of outcrops on the edge of a finger of open moorland on the western side of Dartmoor National Park. Feather Tor is a short stroll away to the north west. The impressive Pew Tor is close to the south west. The tor overlooks a section of the Walkham Valley. This private land includes the striking Vixen Tor.

We've positioned Heckwood Tor on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

Heckwood Tor is an easy walk from the large car parking area at Pork Hill/Barn Hill and Whitchurch Common. This car parking area is on the B3357 and is known for its super views over Tavistock and the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty into Cornwall. Walk south east from the car parking area to Windypost Cross and Grimstone and Sortridge Leat. Continue to Feather Tor and you'll see Heckwood Tor in front of you.

It's also great to visit Heckwood Tor as part of a circular walk taking in the super Pew Tor.
