Houndtor Down, Manaton, Dartmoor National Park

Houndtor Down is home to Hound Tor, Hound Tor Abandoned Medieval Settlement (English Heritage) and Holwell Lawn. The latter has one of the best bluebell showings in Dartmoor National Park.

Houndtor Down was used for crops and livestock during the medieval period when the abovementioned settlement was inhabited. Most of Houndtor Down was open moorland used for communal grazing.

We've positioned Houndtor Down on Google maps. Zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

To visit, head for the car parking area below Hound Tor by Swallerton Gate. There's also limited parking available at the south western side of the down by Holwell Lawn.

You can also walk in from the Haytor Rocks area. A new granite bridge was placed over Becka Brook below Holwell Tor to provide easy access. There's a clapper bridge downstream below Greator Rocks and Hound Tor Abandoned Medieval Settlement (English Heritage).
