Bowerman's Nose, Hound Tor and Medieval Village Circular Walk, Manaton, Dartmoor National Park

Park at Manaton near the church. Head back across the main road and down a narrow lane. A path cuts right over a field towards Hayne Down. Continue up onto open moorland. Bowerman's Nose is to the right near the end of the ridge.

Head back to the path that crosses the ridge and follow it down to a lane that passes Moorhayes as marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map. Continue left until you reach the road at Hound Tor (East Dartmoor) by Swallerton Gate. Hound Tor's granite rocks are relatively easy to climb and the views are spectacular.

Now continue downwards and pass through the remains of Hound Tor Abandoned Medieval Settlement (English Heritage) to a gateway. The path descends steeply down to a clapper bridge over Becka Brook. Continue along the rocky path bearing left under the slope of Black Hill with the views of Holwell Tor and the granite tramway for Haytor Quarries.

Follow the bridlepath to Leighon and for a short distance left along the road. Just beyond a cottage at the bottom of the hill is a path to the right which goes up through bluebell woods and across pasture to rejoin a lane. Turn right and follow the road through Southcott to Hayne Cross and back to Manaton.
