Tors and high moor

If you're looking for a walk and lunch then this is one of the best inns in Dartmoor National Park. A track runs to the edge of the high moor. Cross the stepping stones and wander up to Great Links Tor. The views across to Dartmoor's remote north plateau and over the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are immense.

 

Widgery Cross

As you head up to Great Links Tor, you'll see a giant granite cross topping a rocky outcrop. Visit Widgery Cross.

 

National Trust

The National Trust's Lydford Gorge. One of the most popular visitor attractions in Dartmoor National Park, try the circular gorge walk.

 

English Heritage

English Heritage's Lydford Castle. Discover this notorious medieval prison.

 

Other Lydford attractions

Lydford The Norman Castle. Having explored English Heritage's Lydford Castle, wander across to the earthworks of the earlier Norman castle.

Battle of Lydford Memorial. In 997 AD, there was a battle between Saxons and Vikings at Lydford. Look out for the memorial and Viking Rune Stone.

Lydford St Petroc's Church. Pop into the church to see the super models charting the development of the church.

 

Granite Way

Cycle the Granite Way between Lydford and Okehampton. The highlight is crossing the magnificent Meldon Viaduct.

For a challenge, walk the Lichway/Lych Way.

 

King Way

Walk a section of this ancient travel route connecting Okehampton and Tavistock.
