Lower Dunna Goat, Lydford, Dartmoor National Park

One of a pair of small rocky outcrops overlooking Rattle Brook, Lower Dunna Goat is situated between Great Links Tor and Bleak House in the western section of Dartmoor National Park. Higher Dunna Goat is a very short walk away to the north. Both tors are on the edge of the interior of Dartmoor's north moor and they're a good point from which to explore the National Park's more remote moorland. They're also the furthest east you go on some relatively straightforward circular walks in this section of Dartmoor.

We've positioned Lower Dunna Goat on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

To visit, walk the grass path and track marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map that climbs from the car parking area behind The Dartmoor Inn at Lydford to Lower Dunna Goat. This car parking area is up a lane that branches off the A386 north of The Dartmoor Inn at Lydford. From the car park, follow the farm wall to the stepping stones and footbridge spanning the River Lyd. Walk between Brat Tor (Bray Tor)/Widgery Cross and Arms Tor in the direction of Great Links Tor. The grass path and track curls up to Lower Dunna Goat. Bleak House and then the boggy Amicombe Hill stretch out in front of you. Walk over Amicombe Hill and you're heading towards the heart of Dartmoor's north moor.

For a circular walk, from Lower Dunna Goat, continue up the valley to Rattlebrook Peatworks (Disused). Next, follow the Rattlebrook Peatworks Railway (Disused) all the way down to Great Nodden and then the car parking area by The Dartmoor Inn at Lydford. Variations include walking to Great Links Tor from Lower Dunna Goat and wandering back down to Arms Tor before returning to where you started.
