Green Tor, Lydford, Dartmoor National Park

Green Tor, Lydford, Dartmoor National Park

Green Tor is situated by the headwaters of Rattle Brook and Green Tor Water on the flank of Amicombe Hill in the western section of Dartmoor National Park. The tor overlooks Bleak House which was once part of Rattlebrook Peatworks (Disused). The huge and impressive Great Links Tor is nearby. Despite its location on the notoriously boggy Amicombe Hill, Green Tor is relatively easily accessible.

We've positioned Green Tor in Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.

To visit for the first time, we'd recommend walking up from the large car parking area at the end of the lane by The Dartmoor Inn at Lydford. This is just off the A386 and is marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map. Walk across to the stepping stones/footbridge on the River Lyd below Brat Tor (Bray Tor)/Widgery Cross and then follow the grass path and track all the way up to Dick's Well and then Lower Dunna Goat. Jump across Rattle Brook to Bleak House and wander up to Green Tor.

It's fun to continue up the Rattle Brook Valley to Rattlebrook Peatworks (Disused). From there, follow the trackbed of the Rattlebrook Peatworks Railway (Disused) back down to Great Nodden, Nodden Gate and the car parking area from which you started. It's a great circular walk.
