Swincombe, Hexworthy, Dartmoor National Park

Swincombe, Hexworthy, Dartmoor National Park

Swincombe is a collection of ruined, disused buildings just west of Hexworthy. It's named on the Harvey British Mountain Map 'Dartmoor' map. The buildings are drawn on an area of private land on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map but not named.

Swincombe consists of Higher/Upper and Lower Swincombe Farms. A building on the latter is known as John Bishop's House and has an impressive porch.

The ancient Tavistock to Ashburton Packhorse Track runs through Swincombe. Swincombe Bridge (Swincombe Fairy Bridge/Swincombe Ford Bridge) is east of Swincombe on that track and is the only completely safe way to cross the upper section of the River Swincombe.

One large gatepost stands at the western edge of Swincombe. This marks the eastern boundary of Thomas Tyrwhitt's Tor Royal Estate.
