Little Hound Tor, Gidleigh, Dartmoor National Park

Little Hound Tor, Gidleigh, Dartmoor National Park

As the name suggests, Little Hound Tor is a small, rocky outcrop near Hound Tor to the south of Cosdon Hill and Cosdon Beacon. Little Hound Tor offers exceptional views of Dartmoor's high north plateau and the gentler, rolling hills of the eastern section of the National Park. We've positioned Little Hound Tor on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. Nearby, make sure you visit White Moor Stone Circle and White Moor Stone.

Over the years, we've walked to Little Hound Tor from every direction. Routes include the track/road that runs along Taw Plain. Cross the concrete ford and follow the grassy path up to Little Hound Tor. Alternatively, above Taw Plain, on the plateau Queenie Meads on the western flank of Cosdon Hill, is a path marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map and the Harvey British Mountain Map 'Dartmoor' map. The most obvious route is over the top of Cosdon Hill from Belstone, Sticklepath or South Zeal. We also love the walk across the moors from Batworthy Corner near Chagford. Other people take in Little Hound Tor as part of a circular walk from Belstone up Belstone Ridge to Oke Tor and then Steeperton Tor before returning via Hound Tor and Little Hound Tor.
