Hound Tor (North Dartmoor), Gidleigh, Dartmoor National Park

Over in the eastern section of Dartmoor National Park, not far from Haytor Rocks and Widecombe-in-the-Moor, are the mighty stacks of granite that form Hound Tor. This is one of the most well known and visited tors in Dartmoor. Up on the high north plateau, between Cosdon Hill and Wild Tor, is a much less dramatic rocky outcrop that's also called Hound Tor. The tor itself isn't spectacular but the views from its summit and the surrounding points of interest make it well worth visiting. It's also the point at which a large number of moorland tracks and paths intersect so there's often a big group of walkers on its summit when the sun's out during holiday periods.

We've positioned Hound Tor (North Dartmoor) on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location.
