River Teign, Dartmoor, Dartmoor National Park

One of Dartmoor's most beautiful rivers, the Teign rises in two places on the National Park's north moor. The North Teign River and South Teign River then meet near Chagford.

Downstream of Chagford, the River Teign flows under Iron Bridge below the National Trust's Castle Drogo and into the Teign Gorge which is one of the most beautiful places in Dartmoor National Park.

Points of interest on this stretch of the river include Salmon Leaps, Castle Drogo Weir and Drewe's Pool and Cranbrook Castle Hillfort.

At the eastern end of the Teign Gorge, the river passes under Fingle Bridge and enters Fingle Woods on its way to Steps Bridge and Dunsford Nature Reserve.

Points of interest on this stretch include Prestonbury Castle Hillfort and Wooston Castle Hillfort.

From Steps Bridge, the River Teign curls south following the border of the National Park down the Teign Valley before flowing through the South Devon countryside to Newton Abbot and the Teign Estuary. It meets the sea at Teignmouth and Shaldon.
