The Globe Inn, Chagford, Dartmoor National Park

Chagford inn

The high moor above Chagford provides some of the best views and walking in Dartmoor National Park. Having explored this landscape, we'd recommend relaxing in one of Chagford's many pubs and cafes such as The Globe Inn.

Walking

So, where to walk on the high moor from The Globe Inn?

We'd recommend following the skinny moorland road that climbs from Chagford to Batworthy Corner. If time's tight, wander across to Kestor Rock. Scorhill Stone Circle is superb. If you're up for a big walk, head for tors on Dartmoor's north plateau such as Wild Tor, Watern Tor, Steeperton Tor and Cosdon Hill (Cawsand Hill).

High moor meets forest at Fernworthy Forest and Fernworthy Reservoir. It's a spectacular place. There's a top circular walk around the reservoir.

Walks from The Globe Inn's doorstep include the steep climb to the top of Meldon Hill.

We'd also recommend following the Two Moors Way along a bank of the River Teign to the Teign Gorge (National Trust). This is one of the most beautiful places in the National Park and is the location of the National Trust's Castle Drogo.
